Visitors are invited to workshop demonstrations in Freeman College and the Academy of Makers, where they can try spoon-forging, weaving, felting and other craft skills with the support of our staff, student and skilled craft workers.
Freeman College provides specialist craft education for young people with autistic spectrum conditions and developmental delay. In the adjoining Butcher Works, Freeman College also houses the Academy of Makers; workshops for designer makers and crafts people. Makers run their businesses from these workshops, continuing the tradition of small craft businesses in Sheffield.
The Makers:
Anne Heppell - book binder
David Allison - holloware spinner
Deborah Smith - jeweller
Janet Wass - contemporary jeweller
Louise Broad - nuno felter
Richard Priestley - jeweller and lapidarist
Ryan McClean - designer silversmith
Victoria Kershaw - contemporary silversmith
Will Morgan - shoesmith
DIRECTIONS: Near to the city centre, Freeman College and the Academy of Makers are close to the Arundel Gate Bus Interchange, or a short walk from the train station. They are near to the NCP car park on Arundel Gate and there is limited on-street parking available on Arundel Street.
