My paintings are semi-abstract representations of places and forms I know well. I try to capture the spirit of natural forms using fluid lines and blocks of colour. Influences are many and varied but include African textile design and contemporary stained glass.
Based in Walkley, Sheffield, I exhibit with Walkey Edge artists and at galleries in Yorkshire and Scotland. Originally trained as a biologist, I continue to balance my work as an artist with aid and charity work in Africa.
I use natural forms as the basis for semi abstraction - the patterns that occur in the heather on the high moors, in groups of boulders or trees silhouetted against the winter sky. In my own work I am not interested in realism but try to capture the spirit of natural forms using fluid lines and blocks of colour. More recently I have started to explore printmaking techniques and the incorporation of different textures and materials into my work.
Influences are many and varied but include 20/21st century landscape painters from Scotland and England, African textile design and contemporary stained glass.
