I make prints inspired by landscape using inks of varying viscosity, so that each print is unique.
I enjoy printmaking because it involves two creative steps, the making of the plate and the subsequent inking work with various colour combinations. I usually work with aluminium plates and employ a slash and burn technique using parcel tape to create complex textures, before etching. During the creative process the best plates take on a life of their own and become abstracted from the original inspiration.
Sharing a studio with Jan Hopkins has introduced me to the intricate world of book art and some prints become the inspiration for small booklets . Jan and I also collaborate on making altered books.
STUDIO: Hope Road studio is a converted stable in a lovely garden setting. I share it with book artist Jan Hopkins. Fine art prints, artist books, original drawings and photographs will be on show and for sale. I intend to produce new work throughout Open Up.
DIRECTIONS: Take the tram to Middlewood on the yellow line, then the link bus to Langset Road South/Birchhouse Avenue. Beely Road is on the left. If you pass St Christopher’s garage on the right you have gone too far. Climb Beely Road! Go through the gateway at the top of Beely Road and follow the drive round to the left. Please could drivers park on Beely Road or Hope Road to avoid a shuffle.
