I make hand built and formed ceramics (with a sculptural feel). I respond to landscape, ambience, found textures, and pattern.
I studied sculpture at Hornsey College of Art and went on to work in exhibition and interior design in London. Work in arts workshops and youth centres encouraged me to study for teaching qualifications. On qualifying, I continued to work in arts workshops until I took up full-time Art teaching with ceramics as my area of specialism. Throughout my teaching career, I have dabbled in other areas, such as costume and theatre design, graphics, and model-building; but ceramics has remained my real love.
The rocks and hills of Derbyshire are a continuing creative influence for me. In recent years, I have also been inspired by time spent in the mountains of Europe and Nepal.
STUDIO: My studio comprises workshop and kiln room. I will be demonstrating hand-building, extrusion, and surface-decoration techniques.
DIRECTIONS: Bus numbers 120 and 123 from Sheffield centre. Get off at the Rising Sun pub, Nethergreen, cross the road and walk up Tom Lane.
