I make ceramic sculpture. Striking forms with hand-burnished and smoke-fired subtle finishes.

Interest in landscape, form and space led me to first study Geography/Geology at Sheffield University and, later, Ceramics at Harrow School of Art. After a year travelling and painting in the Middle East and India I set up my first workshop in London, in 1985 and have widely exhibited and run ceramic workshops since then. My work is represented in private and public collections throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Japan.

The forms I am most drawn to have clarity of line or strong underlying geometry. I am inspired by the landscape and natural forms, archaeological artefacts and 20st century sculpture. More importantly, the work has a non-visual dimension that integrates qualities of discipline and freedom, of holding and letting go. I aim for these qualities in my work as it gives the work a sense of having its own energy, separate from the maker.

STUDIO: The studio becomes a mini gallery with a wide range of well displayed ceramic sculptures. I will be available to welcome you and talk about the work.

DIRECTIONS: Bus 22, alight at Nether Edge terminal. Walk uphill on Union Road and take 3rd left into Chelsea Road, beside large Elm tree. Entrance to the studio is on the right side of Chelsea Rd, near the junction with Adelaide Rd. It will be clearly marked.
