My subjects do not relate to 'recognisable' places or people but are a continuous search for essential gestures and rhythms of land and figure.
Originally from South Yorkshire and graduated from Sheffield Art College, I have been a full-time painter since 2000 and have held solo exhibitions in numerous venues throughout the UK. I am currently exhibiting at the Oriel Ty Coch, Cardiff. I am told that my work is vigorous and energetic; certainly my response to the environment has been both physical and emotional. I am currently influenced by the Welsh landscape of Clwyd, and the urban environment of Chester, Manchester and Sheffield. My most recent work reflects my interest in 'family history' – hence a series of 'figure-scapes', searching for the rhythm of land and figure, often in primordial settings All of this I have developed in my M.A. Fine Art course at Glyndwr University where the subject of 'rhythm and gesture in relation to romanticism' has been central to my sudies, which I completed this summer.
