I celebrate the funny and beautiful forms of animals using galvanised wire. The full size sculptures look good, and weather happily in the garden.

Coming from a ceramics background, I have been excited by the possibilities of making larger-scale work using wire. It’s harder on the hands, but I love the way your eyes can rest on it, or see right through it, and how you can see the inside and the outside at the same time.

I enjoy celebrating the wonderful form of animals. Last year I was making piglets, but I’ve also done a whole Nativity scene for Ecclesall Church, and a full-size Freesian/Holstein cow (for our daughter’s wedding reception, of course). Now I’m thinking of foxes – they are so full of character. The galvanised wire mesh looks good and weathers well in the garden, and it’s fun having creatures out there enlivening the space.
