My main output at the moment is (in acrylic) “Nocturnal Townscapes and Industrial scenes”. These are fantasy settings of imagined buildings, with interesting lighting effects.
My Townscapes are compilations of memories of real and imagined buildings in fictional settings.
The Nocturnal aspect was initially inspired by observation of street illumination whilst walking the dog in the winter evenings, resulting in a fascination and urge to capture the differing lighting effects in paint.
A variation is when a townscape is commissioned and I incorporate real buildings important to the client. A commissioned painting will therefore include many disparate (but real) buildings from different places, brought together into one fantasy townscape, a sort of “Townscape Portrait” for the client.
In all cases the composition is created during the action of painting (No preliminary sketches) as I like to use the “happy accidents” that this method of working produces.
