I started wood-turning in 1986 using only wood from South Yorkshire. I maximise the grain and defects allowing the natural wood to shine through.
I began wood-turning as a hobby in 1986. I use only South Yorkshire re-claimed timber, from trees that have fallen naturally, or been felled for safety reasons. I believe that the variety of colour and graining in English timber is enough without the need to resort to rain-forest or other threatened woodlands.
Although I have looked at the work of many national and international turners, my real inspiration comes from the piece of wood I am working on. My work is artistic, and whether for display or practical use, each creation is unique. I aim to get the largest item I can from each log. The final shape is determined by the way in which I can make the most of the natural graining and defects in the wood.
I enjoy working in this medium, and my love of wood shines through in every piece.
