I paint in acrylics and watercolour often using gesso primer for textural effects. For studies in life drawings I favour soft pastels as well as pencil, acrylics and charcoal.

My influences include Samuel Palmer, Graham Sutherland, William Blake, Cezanne and currently receive tuition from Terry Chipp and Katherine Milns at the Brevon Art gallery in Doncaster. Although my first work was in watercolours and gouache I am now experimenting with acrylics often using gesso primer for textural effects. I prefer to work in colour for sketching; soft pastels are my favourite medium, though for speed I also like charcoal or ink.

When working as a surface pattern designer back in the 1970s-80s my work was predominantly for greetings cards and commercial ceramics, later focussing in more botanical watercolour painting. Nowadays I like to be freer in work; my subject matter is varied – still including plant life, but also buildings, details found in cityscapes, and groups of people.
